A trip to grasslands around Saswad never fails to surprise me. I am settled in Pune since about 12 years but never ventured into these areas for nature and wild life photography. My birding was restricted to Bhigwan, Singhad Valley and Kavdi Pat near Pune, mostly waders.

To see and photograph grassland and desert based birds I used to travel to Gujrat and Rajasthan. The pandemic restricted our travel and this forced me to explore areas around Pune and was I pleased and surprised.

I never realized that our neighborhood was so rich in diverse avian species and other mammals. Amazing. Sharing few photos from my recent birding trip to Waghapur about 50 km from Pune.

Shikra. Literally posed for me.
