Olympus OMD EM1 MK 2 is an excellent camera to take out in adverse weather conditions. The inbuilt stabilisation and light weight makes it very convenient to hike for miles looking for subjects to photograph.

In July 2018 I had taken a trip to Amboli, a place famous for Malabar Gliding Frogs, Malabar Pit Vipers and many other small creatures. Sharing few snaps from my archives.

Malabar Gliding Frog

The Malabar gliding frog or Malabar flying frog is a rhacophorid tree frog species found in the Western Ghats of India. It can cover 10 to 12 feet in one leap.

Banded Gecko

Cyrtodactylus deccanensis, also commonly known as  Deccan ground geckoGünther’s Indian gecko, or the banded ground gecko, is a species of gecko found in the northern Western Ghats of India. It has been found from northern Maharashtra, with a habitat range possibly extending to southern GujaratCyrtodactylus albofasciatus was previously considered conspefic with Cyrtodactylus deccanensis but is now accepted as a valid species.

Bull Frog

Also called the Amboli Toad is an endangered species.

Fungoid Frog

The fungoid frog or Malabar Hills frog is a colorful frog found on the forest floor and lower vegetation in the Western Ghats in south-western India from Bombay to Kerala.

Marble Frog
Malabar Pit Viper

Trimeresurus malabaricus, commonly known as Malabar pit viper, Malabar rock pit viper, or rock viper, is a venomous pit viper species endemic to the Western Ghats of southwestern India. No subspecies are currently recognized. (curtesy Wikipedia)

Wrinkled Frog

It is endemic to the Western Ghats of Maharashtra state, India. The species is found near torrential hill streams in tropical moist evergreen and semi-evergreen forests, a habitat that is threatened by habitat loss and pollution.

These creatures come out only by night. It rains non stop at Amboli in these months. Shooting with this camera helps as it is water resistant. I used the Zuiko 40 – 150 mm lens with 1.4 x teleconveter  which gave me adequate reach and flexibility. I used a handheld LED Light to light up the subjects.
